We invite you on a unique and personal tour of one of Eastern Europe's most exciting countries! We will explore beyond the obvious and find big moments in small things on a journey that exhilarates rather than exhausts.

Hungary has become a popular tourist destination thanks to its rich culture, cosmopolitan cities and sweeping natural landscapes. On this tour, we will focus on living local cultures and culinary traditions.

You will experience Hungary as few travelers do, getting to know the country as an insider, more like a local and less like a frenzied tourist. We will be reaching beyond popular tourist destinations, discover secret gardens, hidden streets, intimate museums and of course delicious food and wine. We will meet local people, fascinating artists, interesting experts, and attend special events designed to uncover little known gems throughout the country.
Be prepared to slow down often to be astonished.
Your guide
Your guide, Csilla Grauzer, is a native Hungarian with years of experience introducing travelers to her homeland. She is the Honorary Consul of Hungary to Minnesota, serving as an official cultural delegate between Hungary and the United States. Whether she is hunting for antique treasures in small towns or navigating the restaurant scene in Budapest, Csilla leads travelers with in-depth, insider knowledge, a personal touch, a passion for the culinary arts, and savvy travel style.

Tour Itinerary*
Day 1 - Budapest
Arrive in Budapest, one of the worlds most romantic and entertaining capitals. Known as the "Queen of the Danube" and considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Much of Budapest is protected as an expansive UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also well known as a cultural mecca for writers, artists and musicians, and boasts some of the best restaurants and shops in the country. We will pick you up at the airport bring you to our hotel in the heart of the city, and welcome you to enjoy a delicious dinner with fellow travelers, included.

Day 2 - Budapest

Day 3 - GödöllÅ‘ & HollókÅ‘
A day trip may include​:

The Royal Castle of GödöllÅ‘: A 250 year old Royal Palace, a significant work of Hungarian Baroque architecture and a favorite destination for Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Queen Elizabeth.

The Old Village of HöllókÅ‘: This UNESCO World Heritage site is a deliberately preserved traditional settlement, serving as a living example of rural Hungarian life in the 17th and 18th centuries. Step back in time as you enjoy folk activities, demonstrations, dance and the food of the Paloc people.

Day 4 - Budapest
Waking Tour of the City may include:

The Great Synagogue on Dohány Street - the largest in Europe

St. Stephen's Basilica - a spectacular view from the 300-foot-high dome and home to the largest bell in Hungary

Central Market Hall - a vast array of foods and crafts throughout its 3 floors

Stroll down the famous pedestrian Vaci Street

Interactive Cooking Class with local chef
Breakfast and lunch or dinner are included.​

Day 5 & 6 - Eger and its countryside
After breakfast we will travel by mini-bus then step back in time and discover the beauty of rural Hungary.

We will explore Eger, a jewelry box of a town. Learn about its history of Turkish occupation and defeat during which the towns people turned back an Ottoman invasion of Central Europe in 1552. Activities may include:

Climb an original minaret

Stroll the streets of the Baroque town center

Cellar hopping in "The Valley of the Beautiful Women", tasting the celebrated Bull's Blood and other local wines

Nature hike in the Bükk mountains and Szalajka Valley with its salt caves and trout lakes

Visiting local artisanal product manufacturers

Eat at a Michelin star restaurant

Wine tasting with a local wine expert

Day 7, 8 & 9 - Tokaj Region
Traveling north to immerse ourselves in the patterned vineyards, farms and picturesque villages of the Tokaj wine region where wine has been produced for 1000 years. Deep cellars were carved by hand into mostly volcanic rocks.

The socio-cultural ethnic and religious diversity of the local people, together with the fame of Tokaji Aszu Wine, has contributed to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the region.

Learn about this UNESCO-listed region from wine makers producing a variety of traditional, modern and experimental wines

Visit the castle of Sárospatak and its surrounding natural beauty

Chocolate factory tour of Szerencs

History museum of the area and the Tokaji wine museum

Visit artistan cheese makers and honey producers

Enjoy high quality wellness and spa services

Visit the village of Mad and learn about its rich Jewish history

Cellar tours guided by wine experts with wine tasting

Visit the small village of Monok, birth place of the great Hungarian statesman Lajos Kossuth

Day 10 - Budapest
Return back to Budapest to spend the last day at leisure, revisiting favorite spots or discovering new corners of the city.

Or, enjoy a few relaxing hours at one fo the many thermal baths.

Day 11 - Budapest
The official tour ends after breakfast. We will transfer you to the airport to board your flight home if you would like, or you can continue to enjoy Eastern Europe on your own.

The tour will start and end in Budapest, Hungary. You must purchase your own international airfare and arrive in Budapest at Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) on the first day of the tour.

Travelers with American passports do not need a special visa.
